It was time to try something new. Rumor has it that Violette Fields makes some great patterns, so I decided to try one. A customer asked me to make something for her oldest daughter, so I decided to try the Blithe Dress. It had long been on my "to-do-list" for my daughter who is now 11.
I know......before I turned around she was growing into a teenager. Time has just flown. Anyways, I fell in love with this pattern the moment it was released. And I should mention that this pattern comes in all kinds of sizes - which I love. Thank you Violette Fields.
The Blithe pattern is really gorgeous, and very well put together. I own a ton of patterns, and I rarely sew them. Ha. I enjoy reading them, and learning about new ideas and great sewing tips from other seamstresses, but I rarely use them. I use Frankenpatterns (and if you don't know what that is, then I suggest you google the term).
I am so happy that I got the opportunity to sew this dress. It was fun, and I really enjoyed all the details. The petal sleeves are beautiful. LOVE. I will most likely use that in some of my future Frankenpatterns.
The directions were well written. I did wish several times that the author had written seperate instructions for the different types of skirts she referenced, but I was happy for all of the information given to the customers. Very considerate. I absolutely loved the yoke in this pattern. Great idea for avoiding bulky waistbands.
I am not a big fan of zippers unless they are hidden, so I redid the back of this pattern to include buttons. I also do not like to apply zippers in children's clothing under the age of 5. It is an old fashioned point of view, but my daughter still complains about her hair getting caught in hooks and zippers.
In conclusion, I would definitely recommend buying this pattern. My daughter is wearing a size 8. I also made a size 4 and a size 16. I will let you know if they fit. My daughter's dress fit perfectly.
