A few of my favorite things.....
Since I am working pretty much around the clock for the next few weeks, I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite things about Christmas. I hope you guys join in and share your thoughts. I would love to hear if you feel the same way.
It is funny that I pick snow as one of my favorite Christmas and/or winter things. It is also funny that I now live in Florida, where my chances of ever seeing snow again is slim to none. As they say, the grass is always greener on the other side, and that would be the truth in this case. I really had to think about this one. So here are my thoughts. I grew up in the northeast. We had snow almost every year. As a young child, we would go sledding, and have snowball fights all the times, and I have fond memories of those "snow moments".
As we got older, living in Europe we also experienced snowfalls in the wintertime. The temperatures were always cold, and if there was no snow, our family travelled to find it. We had our first ski trip in Austria when I was about 13 or 14 years old.
As an adult with my husband and family, we would go skiing in Italy in a tiny village called Sulden. It was gorgeous. Standing high in the alps, no buses were allowed in, so the skiing was always magnificent. No crowded paths or streets. The food was italian - always delicious, and the hotels were comfortable and spacious. This place will forever hold a special place in my heart. Beautiful memories.
Snow is cold, and not fun to drive in, not fun to dress up for either, but when you see it on the news it always says Christmas. I did not realize how much I missed it until my daughter mentioned that she would love to experience snow at Christmas. I suddenly wished that I had given her the same fond memories that my parents had shared with me. One day, I will introduce her to snow, and hopefully she will be able to build a snowman, ski, sled, and have a snowball fight, just like I did when I was young.
