Ruffle Shorts

Onto our next favorite short pattern, which would be the Lily Bird Ruffle Short pattern for sizes 0-8y. It is a rather simple short pattern, but honestely that is all the kids really need. The auther does a good job as far as explaining how to make the shorts. Her instructions include pictures and concise explanations. I have made these for Olivia in a size 3, 4, and 5, and they always fit very nice. The only complaint I have is that they are somewhat short in the crotch. I add a 1/2″ to the waistline to ensure that she does not struggle with the shorts and that they do not pinch her. I have made up this pattern so many times in all kinds of different fabrics. Our favorite pair is the white seersucker short, which I offered in my shop two years ago. I still have some of the fabric left over, so I probably should make her another pair for school. Here you see the pink polka dot version, and I made a matching short for her doll OLIVIA.
Next, I made her a pair in a red gingham with a large lace attached to the hem instead of a ruffle. The shorts are comfortable to wear, and when she plays on the playground she needs something underneath her dresses.
I would love to know what everyone sews for their kids. Leave a comment if I forgot about a great fitting short pattern. Yesterday on pinterest I found a tutorial for the Oliver & S Sandbox short on Handmade by Jill. The shorts were adorable and I may have to try them out myself.
